Safety
Empowered People, Exceptional Results
At McGrath & Associates, safety isn’t just a box to check – it’s a core value that guides every decision in the office and on our job sites. We take a proactive, cooperative approach to safety, meaning that our safety managers partner with field teams to find solutions and plan safer ways to perform the work before risks arise. We endeavor to have ZERO injuries each year, and we strive toward this goal through training, planning, and accountability for every person on every project.
Our Proactive, Cooperative Approach to Safety
With McGrath & Associates, you can take comfort in knowing that we consider safety more than just a compliance requirement or a problem to work through when something goes wrong. We have a deliberate and proactive team approach that defines our zero-incident safety mindset:
Safety Associations

- Plan First: We evaluate project-specific hazards before the work ever starts. Our considerable expertise in complex and sensitive environments helps us develop site-specific safety plans that are used for training and daily guidance.
- Find Solutions Together: When conditions change or challenges arise, our teams take the time to reassess and adapt their methods so the work proceeds safely and efficiently. We aim to never find ourselves in the position of being reactive but instead strive to anticipate and resolve issues before they escalate.
- Team Accountability: We emphasize open communication, near-miss reporting, and lessons learned to prevent repeat issues. By reflecting on incidents or close calls, we can continually improve our methods and increase safety practices across every phase of the project.
Training and Field Practices
Our commitment to health and safety excellence applies to every single person employed by McGrath & Associates. From our management personnel and architects to our jobsite teams, we recognize the importance of having a thorough understanding of proper safety protocols and practices and utilizing this knowledge to mitigate risks. Our employees are involved in:
- Advanced OSHA Training: All of our construction team, from our field manpower to our president, are required to complete OSHA Training.
- MSHA Training: We have crews that have completed MSHA Part 48B miner safety training, which includes hazard prevention, PPE, and emergency procedures.
- Monthly Safety Meetings: These companywide meetings include a specific training topic, discussion regarding industry best practices, and lessons learned from any incidents or near misses that may have occurred in the previous month.
- Site-Specific Training: This ongoing training takes place at every one of our job sites. It continues throughout the entirety of a project and includes weekly toolbox talks as well as daily job safety hazard analyses.
- Pre-Task Planning (PTP): For all jobs, PTP is used to assess specific tasks and potential hazards in order to create a comprehensive plan that prioritizes safety management before the work begins.
Results You Can Measure
McGrath & Associates consistently maintains an OSHA Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) below the national construction average. We are also proud of our exceptional Experience Modification Rate (EMR), which is used by the insurance industry to rate workers’ compensation premiums based on contractor safety performance and loss history. Our safety performance is consistently recognized at the Associated General Contractors of Missouri Safety Awards year after year.
